You Are Not Lazy. You Are Overwhelmed.

This gets mislabelled all the time.


You tell yourself you are being lazy.

You think you have lost your drive.

You wonder why you cannot seem to get anything done.


But most of the time, that is not what is actually going on.


You are not lazy.


You are overwhelmed.


When everything feels like too much


Overwhelm does not always look dramatic.


It can look like staring at a simple task and not starting.

It can look like putting things off you know matter.

It can look like scrolling, zoning out, or avoiding things you normally handle easily.


Then the judgement kicks in.


Why am I like this

I should be able to do this

I need to get it together


So you push harder.


And somehow, it gets worse.


Your brain is not refusing. It is protecting


When you are overwhelmed, your brain shifts into protection mode.


Too many decisions.

Too much pressure.

Too many things competing for your attention.


So it slows you down.


Not because it wants you to fail.

Because it is trying to keep you safe.


That freeze, that hesitation, that lack of movement is not weakness.


It is overload.


Pushing harder is not always the answer


This is where people get stuck.


They feel behind, so they try to push harder.

They add more pressure.

They criticise themselves into action.


But overwhelm does not respond well to force.


It responds to space.


Start smaller than you think you should


When everything feels like too much, you do not need a big plan.


You need a smaller starting point.


One task.

One email.

One load of washing.

One decision.


Not everything.


Just something.


Momentum builds from there, but only if you make the starting point manageable.


Give yourself less, not more


This sounds backwards, but it works.


Lower the expectation.

Shorten the list.

Simplify the day.


You are not quitting. You are recalibrating.


Resilience is not about forcing yourself to operate at full capacity all the time.


It is about adjusting when your capacity shifts.
